Current Scam Alert:

Please beware of scammers impersonating Alabama credit Union and urging you to provide your debit card number, online banking login, and other financial information.  Scammers may use automated dialing software to set up robocalls and are able to change their caller ID to what may seem like a local call.

Keep Your Financial Information Secure

Best Practices for Safe Online Banking: 

  • Never give financial information including your account number, card PIN, or online banking/mobile app login, to an unverified caller, text message, or email.
  • Review your account transactions daily via online banking or our mobile app to ensure there is no fraudulent activity.
  • Submit a travel notice when traveling so that your transactions are not flagged as fraudulent. 
  • Notify us immediately if you see an unauthorized transaction on your Alabama CU account. 
  • Never give anyone permission to access your account online or on a mobile device.
  • Use strong passcodes. Avoid using your personal information as a passcode, user ID, or card PIN.
  • Secure your smartphone by locking your screen. Secure options include using biometrics such as your fingerprint or face. 
  • Keep your technology up to date on computers and mobile devices, You can also use antivirus and antispyware software. 
  • Don't access your accounts over unsecured wireless networks. 
  • Be alert for suspicious emails regarding you account. Don't click on links or attachments from unverified sources.

Identity theft happens when someone uses your personal or financial information without your permission to commit fraud. It can damage your credit record and cost you time and your hard-earned money.

Recognize the warning signs:

  • Unfamiliar inquiries on your credit report 
  • Sudden drop in credit score
  • Unauthorized transactions on your account statements
  • Denial of loan or credit applications
  • Bills for items you did not purchase
  • Calls from debt collectors

How to protect yourself:

  • Do not share personal information such as your Social Security Number to unverified sources. 
  • Keep yourself safe online by using strong passcodes and enabling multi-factor authentication.
  • Review your credit card and account statements. Report unauthorized transactions or suspicious activity.
  • Check your credit report regularly. 
  • Store your important documents in a secure place, like a locked file cabinet or safe. Shred anything you no longer need.
  • Collect your mail daily and place a hold on your mail if you're away from home.

What to do if your identity is stolen:

  • Contact one of the three major credit reporting agencies to place a fraud alert on your credit report. 
  • File a compliant with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
  • File a report with your local police department. Ask for a copy of the police report.
  • If your financial account has been compromised, contact your financial institution for details on their process for handling fraudulent account activity.
